BLOOMINGTON, MN— January 24, 2019
Mall of America is excited to announce the extension of Skate the Star – the first ever ice rink built at Mall of America that opened on December 8, 2018. The last day of Skate the Star was originally planned for January 27, however by popular demand, and with over $75,000 raised for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities through skate rentals, Mall of America has decided to keep the rink open through February 18.

“Our goal with Skate the Star was to bring a new experience to our guests and to raise money and awareness for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities,” said Jill Renslow, SVP of Business Development at Mall of America. “I’m so excited that we have surpassed all expectations with our first-ever ice rink. We are thrilled to be able to host this experience for a few more weeks and continue raising funds for such an important community partner.”

“The excitement and enthusiasm for Skate the Star has been incredible to be a part of,” said Terryl Brumm, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities. “Families and friends have been able to create special moments and memories on the ice knowing that they are also benefitting thousands of Twin Cities youth. $75,000 is transformational in advancing the programming we provide that changes lives. We are incredibly grateful to MOA, UCare, and the entire community for such an outpouring of support.”

Presented by UCare, Skate the Star will be open through end of day on February 18. It will remain free and open to the public and skate rentals will continue to be available for $5 with 100 percent of proceeds going directly to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities.  Dates and hours of operation will vary. Guests are encouraged to learn more about operating dates and times at www.mallofamerica.com/skate.

Skate the Star was constructed by local company Minnesota Ice. The rink is built around the iconic North entrance Star Sculpture at Mall of America using 18,000 gallons of water.
