Mall of America® celebrates Earth Month with interactive events, iconic traditions, and sustainable surprises

BLOOMINGTON, MN — April 1, 2026

April is Earth Month, and Mall of America® is celebrating with sustainability focused events, hands-on experiences, and long-standing environmental initiatives that bring nature indoors. This commitment dates back to its 1992 opening, when MOA® made industry leading design choices, including building without a central heating system, using 1.7 miles of skylights and body heat from visitors to regulate temperature, and incorporating thousands of live plants to naturally clean the air, laying the foundation for its ongoing green efforts.

Ladybug Release

A signature Earth Month tradition, the annual Ladybug Release returns to Nickelodeon Universe®. With more than 30,000 live plants throughout the property, this event showcases how natural solutions like ladybugs help support plant health by controlling aphids, small plant-damaging insects, and reducing the need for chemical pesticides. Open to the public with advance registration, guests can enjoy an up-close look at this eco-friendly practice, hear from our landscaping team, and help release thousands of ladybugs into the park’s greenery, offering an engaging and meaningful way to see sustainability in action.
